CachyOS Linux Kernel 7.0.5 and 6.18.28 Now Available — Protects Against Dirty Frag Vulnerability

·Anders da Silva Rytter Hansen

New CachyOS kernel versions 7.0.5 and 6.18.28 are now available in COPR for Fedora and RHEL. Upgrade immediately to protect against the Dirty Frag vulnerability.

Vulnerability Discovered: Dirty Frag

A new security vulnerability called Dirty Frag has been discovered in the Linux kernel. This vulnerability could potentially allow local attackers to escalate privileges on affected systems.

Upgrade Available Now

I have updated the CachyOS kernel builds in COPR to versions 7.0.5 and 6.18.28, which contain the necessary security patches.

  • Packages: kernel-cachyos (standard), kernel-cachyos-lts (LTS), kernel-cachyos-server, kernel-cachyos-rt, plus LTO variants
  • Platforms: Fedora and Enterprise Linux (RHEL, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, etc.)
  • Repository: COPR kernel-cachyos

What is the CachyOS Kernel?

The CachyOS kernel is an optimized Linux kernel focused on performance and latency. It includes:

  • Btrfs and ZFS optimizations
  • CPU scheduler tweaks for better responsiveness
  • Memory management improvements
  • Latest security patches

Perfect for both workstations and servers where performance matters.

Upgrade Immediately

I urge all users to upgrade as soon as possible. Security vulnerabilities should never be ignored — especially when a fix is already available.

To upgrade:

sudo dnf update kernel-cachyos*

Remember to reboot after the upgrade to ensure you're running on the new kernel.

Verify Your Kernel Version

After rebooting, confirm you're running the secure version:

uname -r

You should see 7.0.5 or 6.18.28 in the output.

Questions?

If you experience any issues with the upgrade or have questions about the CachyOS kernel, feel free to drop me a message. I'm happy to help!

Stay safe out there!
